Grizzly Alert: Plan Alternate Geyser Route
April 23, 2008
Reports surfaced this week of grizzly bears roaming the parking lots at the Old Faithful geyser and gift shop in Yellowstone National Park. While some may find this charming — at a distance — it won’t be fun for the first human bear snack (Watch Grizzly Man if you don’t believe us).
For those who simply must see an erupting geyser on their travels, we can suggest several grizzly-free — if less dramatic — alternates: the Old Faithful Geyser of California, the World’s Largest Man-Made Geyser in Idaho, and the mysterious Flaming Geyser of Washington. There’s even Andrews Geyser on the East Coast, where the most dangerous wildlife you’d likely encounter would be cranky raccoons.
