Indiana Gets Second Sleepy Museum
November 14, 2008
The Henager Memories and Nostalgia Museum in Buckskin, Indiana, was the loneliest museum in America when we reported on it last year. At the time it was averaging less than one visitor a day.
Now a new champion may have emerged in Hoosier-land.
The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum opened on November 11 in Fort Wayne. An article in that city’s Journal Gazette quotes the museum’s curator, Olivia Emry, saying that, “There really isn’t anything like this around.”
Most museum openings are gala events with hoopla and wall-to-wall people. Not this one. According to the news story:
Despite the free access, the museum’s first day wasn’t crowded. Emry said only one person, a friend, stopped in to visit.
It’s only a matter of time before attendance picks up. Once word gets out that the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum has on display the confession letters of the assassins of Presidents McKinley and Garfield, people will come.
