Roadside America co-author and web site publisher Doug Kirby is giving a free presentation at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center, Livermore, CA, 2 pm Sunday, February 21, 2010 (down the street from the World’s Longest Continuously Burning Lightbulb).
“Roadside America: No Exit” is part of the library’s Livermore Reads Together program, featuring John Steinbeck’s classic book Travels with Charley.
Is the sun setting on America’s roadside attractions? Should you weep for Route 66, the demise of neon-trimmed motels and old tyme lunch counters? RoadsideAmerica.com says: “NEVER!” Don’t let the mourners of historic highway “culture” get you down! The US is stuffed-to-bursting with incredible, ridiculous sights. Kirby will provide a whirlwind tour, punctuated with photos and videos, of today’s offbeat tourism landscape. Learn how it’s easier today to find unusual tourist attractions — and no longer become a pariah after mentioning them back home!
The talk is at 2 pm at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center, 1188 S. Livermore Avenue, in the Community Meeting Room. For more info, call the library at: (925) 373-5500
