Pasaquan’s Mystic Bad-Ass: 100th Birthday
July 3, 2008
Guess our Roadside Milestone calendar should have sent us an earlier alarm: Tomorrow (July 4th) is the 100th birthday of Eddie O. Martin, aka St. EOM, aka the Boadacious Mystic Badass of Buena Vista, creator of Pasaquan, Buena Vista, GA. The eccentric artist was born at the stroke of midnight, July 4, 1908 (or so they say). It’s unlikely Eddie would have made it to this milestone, even if he hadn’t killed himself in 1986. But his colorful outsider art environment and home makeover still stands in rural western Georgia.
The Pasaquan Preservation Society, who keep the place repaired and spruced up, is holding a celebration on the property, and the public is invited to join.
“Pasaquan-related activities include a snake-calling contest, a Pasaquan costume parade and competition, and a St. EOM birthday cake contest.” More info is available at Pasaquan Preservation Society web site.
Pasaquan will also be open for tours on July 5th. After that, the schedule is about once a month without an advance group tour arrangement.
Pasaquan is both creative and alien — and definitely worth seeing if you find yourself anywhere within 100 miles of Buena Vista on the 4th….

I’m so glad to see places like this being taken care of and kept alive. God bless the creative spirit.
