Souvenir: Naughty Cactus Sighting
April 8, 2008
The Cactus Penis Planter, a classic southwestern souvenir stand item that once perched on equal footing with rattlesnake heads and scorpions in lucite, has done a slow fade from the nation’s gift stands. It’s been a while since we’ve seen one. We suspected the politically prickly novelties were a thing of the past, like Zulu Lulu swizzle sticks.
To our surprise and delight we spotted a few recently at a shop in Scottsdale, Arizona (along with a Cowgirl Mammary Planter). It was night, and the store was closed, but they had the good sense to put these in the window at eye level.
