Unholy Blast from the Past:
Holy Land USA Video
In 1987, the NYC comedy group Chucklehead was furiously performing at cabarets and off-off Broadway venues. The shows mixed live sketches with guerilla VHS videos shot around town and played on ugly, old TVs the Chucks hauled in a station wagon.
Science for Fundamentalists was a recurring live bit featuring Reverend Ridgelow, young Billy (with the sponge in his pocket) and neophyte Amanda (with the lipstick on her teeth).
As an offshoot for this popular trio, the group shot a TV commercial spoof about a fabulous theme park called Holy Land USA.
The scenes were shot at a defunct religious attraction, Holy Land USA, in Waterbury, Connecticut; and at Coney Island. The fire scene is from Doug's back yard, using a barbecue grill and a wheel barrow for Billy.
