 Quirky Tourist Attractions in or near North CarolinaWhile in North Carolina, you might enjoy a visit to: Fire Horse Fred pulled the New Bern fire hose wagon from 1908 to 1925. You can see his head mounted in a glass case at the Fireman's Museum. For 62 years he hung on the wall of a local mortuary, victim of an unpaid funeral bill. Roadside mutant, identified as a tastee freez character, with an interesting story about how it ended up on the roof of an auto repair shop. They survived Vietnam, but couldn't endure North Carolina. An actual working lighthouse in a parking lot, pays tribute to the nearby Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Not as big as some others, but the oldest big pot in America. A statue of Daniel Boone, we think, converted into a Shriner with a makeshift hat. Recreates what it must have been like when all of the replica Indians were gone. |
