About 100 concrete hippos are scattered throughout this community, including a large one in front of the high school. Apparently an escaped circus hippo in the early 20th century created quite a stir here. My favorite was a pair of hippos, with the girl in a yellow bikini. Probably the only museum in the world in which waitresses come up to you as you tour and ask, "Want a beer?" Nutty claim to fame solidified by a statue on the courthouse lawn.
