The Passage Resort is nestled atop the Bighorn Mountains National Forest on Hwy 14. Only 100 miles East of historic Cody, and 50 West of Sheridan, our guests have access to over 190,000 acres of back country to hike, bike, or ride with 1500+ miles of trails for summer and winter enjoyment. Upon reaching The Passage, the majestic Big Horns shoot skyward interlaced with canyon areas that make for a breathtaking view, dare to reach out and touch the sky. The Big Horns are riddled with areas where evidence of the Native Americans that summered here can be found. An easy day trip from the resort puts you on the ground of Indian war battle fields including the Little Big Horn where Custer made his last stand, or the Wagon Box, Conner, or Rose Bud battle fields, Fort Phil Kearny, the Fetterman Massacre, and the Bozeman Trail. Walk the grounds where worriers from both sides fought the epic battles for the American West. Native Americans knew how to live off the land, which is one of the many reasons that they chose the Big Horns as a summer home. Literally an open wildlife area, the deer and the antelope do play here. In a morning drive you can watch the Moose graze with their newborn or watch the deer playfully prance in the many open meadows. Looking to be a little more laid back? Pull up a chair or pull on your waders, fish fill the many creeks, rivers and lakes that peeper the landscape. Your choices include Mountain White Fish, Rainbow, Yellowstone Cutthroat, Brown and Brooke Trout. The Passage can provide fishing experiences from a stop along the Hwy to an adventure guided day in Devils Canyon, Trout Creek or Shell Canyon. The more adventurous can explore the Cloud Peak Wilderness area on an overnight horse pack trip to fish the crystal clear streams and glacial lakes.
