The mighty Atlantic ocean and the infamous sandbars known as the Diamond Shoals surround Hatteras Island and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton.Visitors enjoy these barrier islands as remote and peaceful sanctuaries abundant with numerous bird species and marine life. Traditional accommodations are featured at the Cape Pines Motel with personalized service of Angie and Bill Rapant. The Cape Pines is in Buxton/NC on Hatteras Island North Carolina.Hatteras Island is a 40 mile long barrier island which is part of the Outer Banks/ OBX of North Carolina. A single two lane highway/ NC route 12/runs the length of the island and continues north through Nags Head/Kitty Hawk/and Corolla/NC.Hatteras Island is a rather remote location accessible via route 12 from the north or via the NC Ferry System via Ocracoke Island from the south. Hatteras Island is largely undeveloped and most of it represents the Cape Hatteras National Seashore national park. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse/located in Buxton/along with miles of beautiful sandy white beaches/including Cape Point/are hightlights of the area. No nationally branded fast food restaurants or liquor by the glass is available on Hatteras Island. Norfolk/VA International Airport ORF is the closest major airport located 3 hours by car from Buxton/NC. Washington/DC is a 6 hour drive by car via Norfolk/ Virginia Beach/VA and Richmond/VA. There is also an airport strip in Frisco/5 miles from the Motel/which can accommodate small/private planes. Car rental can be arranged in advance from the mainland. Airport Location - Nearest airport is approximately 150 miles/and a 3 hour drive.

Hatteras Island restaurants are seasonal in nature with numerous dining selections available within a few miles of the motel between May and October. A more limited selection is available throughout the remainder of the year. Hatteras Island dining is quite informal with no particular dress code. Most restaurants generally do not serve after 9pm. No hard Liquor is served on the island and a few restaurants serve only wine and beer.An ABC liquor store is located in Buxton near the motel. Seafood fare is most popular and nationally branded fast food restaurants are non-existent on Cape Hatteras. Seasonal hours of operation may apply between November and April.
