First erupted in 1937, when a local man drilling for heated water for a swimming pool punctured an underground chamber. Now on a timer so it erupts every hour, on the hour -- unless it's windy. The wolf pack at Wolf People numbers over 20. Some hang out in the gift shop. The rest are back in the woods. Feedings are three times a week; Wolf People offers tours of their habitat and a "picture pen." It took 16 bullets to kill the nearly 7-ft. tall Cherokee "Bigfoot" Starr Wilkinson, who robbed and killed pioneers. The statue and memorial, dedicated on August 22, 1974, stands at the replica of Old Fort Boise. |
