Crowds gather every evening to watch 750,000 Mexican free-tailed bats take flight from under the Congress Avenue Bridge. About 100 concrete hippos are scattered throughout this community, including a large one in front of the high school. Apparently an escaped circus hippo in the early 20th century created quite a stir here. My favorite was a pair of hippos, with the girl in a yellow bikini. |
