They claimed to have been waylaid and probed by aliens while driving south on US 3 on September 19, 1961. Noted with a historical marker. Plaque on a rock marks the location of an Indian village attacked by white colonists in 1712. Self guided tour literature for the New Hampshire historical trail is available at the town building or chamber of commerce. Wooden walkways ease your path around mysterious ice caves. The ice can be 12 feet thick in the Spring, but it's usually gone by August. The folks in the Fairbanks Museum aren't embarrassed that they have an oddball exhibit. They call it "bug art" -- which is in fact what it is -- with pride. |
