 Quirky Tourist Attractions in or near New MexicoWhile in New Mexico, you might enjoy a visit to: Made of refuse from a local dump, twenty feet tall. The Border Patrol Museum has been in operation since 1985, tracing "the rich heritage of the patrol from the days of the Wild West to today's sophisticated law-enforcement technology." It's close to Mexico, in El Paso, but as the nation's only such museum it also tells the story of Canadian border patrols. Displays a collection of patrol vehicles -- tough terrain jeeps, helicopters -- along with photos, artifacts, confiscated weapons, and law enforcement ephemera. Impressive to look at, but risky to visit unless you're in a group. No divine protection here! Or at least the skeleton of a dinosaur. |
