Dedicated to preserving the past while updating the property for the todays discerning traveler- the Stonewall Jackson Hotel Conference Center re-opened in 2005- welcoming guests and the community back to the historic property following an extensive two-year renovation and expansion project. The project- which cost USD21.1 million and was completed in October 2005- lovingly restored the property to its Southern splendor and features a new wing to provide additional guest rooms as well as modern meeting and function space. The property- designed by renowned American architect H.L. Stevens originally opened in 1924 and has already been recognized by Historic Hotels of America for its architectural significance. The refurbishment of the hotels 124 deluxe guestrooms and suites are complimented by a complete restoration of the hotels lobby- including terrazzo floors- glass display cases- chandeliers and wall sconces. The hotels Colonnade Ballroom- once a popular spot for special events hosted by the Shenandoah Valley society in the hotels early years- has also been restored and features graceful 20-foot arched windows- as well as the refurbishment of floors- antique light fixtures- moldings and detailed decorative ironwork that evokes a sense of Southern charm and spirit. The hotels mezzanine has also been restored- and is now the site of the properties famed 1924 Wurlizter Organ. This one-of-a-kind instrument has graced the hotels Colonnade Ballroom for three quarters of a century and- as part of the hotels overall renovation- has been precisely restored to its original condition and reinstalled in the hotels mezzanine- which overlooks the hotel lobby and Colonnade Ballroom. By restoring the Stonewall Jacksons rich historic detail the hotel has entered a new era- stated Carol Simon- general manager- Stonewall Jackson Hotel Conference Center. We are now able to provide visitors with a luxurious and modern guest experience while enjoying the preservation of the Stonewall Jacksons original charm and splendor.-more-Stonewall Jackson Hotel Conference Center Re-Opens/2Guestroom features include in-room cable television with on-demand movies- telephones with data port and voice mail capabilities- high-speed Internet access- hair dryer- iron- in-room coffeemakers and complimentary weekday paper. The hotels historic dining room and lobby bar is open daily- offering an a la carte menu of creative American fare along with a popular Sunday brunch buffet. Room service is also available. The Stonewall Jackson features nearly 8-500 square-feet of meeting and function space- including the 2-700 square-foot Colonnade Ballroom- which is able to host 240 for a banquet or 303 theater-style. In addition- the 4-453 square-foot Shenandoah Ballroom can accommodate up to 400 for a banquet or 495 theater-style. Additional function space includes two state-of-the-art meeting and break-out rooms and an elegant Executive Boardroom. High-speed Internet is available throughout the hotels meeting space- and audio-visual services and a business center is also available on-site. Creative catering for group functions and specialized meeting packages are also available. The Stonewall Jackson Hotel Conference Center is located in the historic downtown district of Staunton- adjacent to the citys Main Street- which has been recognized by The National Trust for Historic Preservation as Virginias first winner of the Great American Main Street Award. Stauntons historic district features more than 60 shops ranging from antique dealers to art galleries and high-end clothing boutiques as well as more than 20 casual and fine-dining restaurants with a wide range of culinary options.
