Planters Peanuts has erected a slightly larger-than-human sized Mr. Peanut statue on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The bronze-colored statue of the courtly goober, monocled and tipping his hat, is seated on a park bench in Kennedy Plaza. It's actually faux bronze -- foam and fiberglass resin over steel.
The occasion is the 100th anniversary of Planters, which has had a peanut presence on the boardwalk since the 1930s. The Planters NUTmobile, eastbound on its Centennial Mobile Tour, will be in Atlantic City on July 14-16, 2006 for the statue's official dedication. [07/13/2006]
