Consumer confidence in downtown Easton, PA's business district has increased since last July, bringing new opportunities for growth by businesses, according to a market survey of shoppers. "An awakening energy is evident throughout downtown Easton," said a spokesman.
The Crayola Factory/Store was listed by shoppers as one of the most positive aspects of Easton (along with "good furniture"), and a recent report to the City Council credited the Crayola Factory for a quadrupling of parkers in the public garage during January, 1997, versus the same month in 1996.
Counterbalancing the enthusiasm created by the Crayola Factory, respondents rated as negative aspects of Easton: poor police presence, dirt/litter, vacancy rate, loiterers, crime, and the bus terminal location.
The survey, titled "20,000 Pennies for Your Thoughts," also sent a message that merchants cannot be complacent, and must take steps to increase the effectiveness and frequency of in-store promotions and to support additional promotions during peak selling periods. [03/09/1997]
