The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History announced they have acquired the original 60 Minutes stopwatch used to start the popular TV news show since 1968. We can't help but wonder how the "Newseum," Arlington, VA, a museum opened with much ink and fanfare in 1997 and devoted to journalism, missed out on this important artifact (although they do have Sing Sing's electric chair).
The stopwatch will join other icons of teevee culture at the National Museum of American History, including Archie and Edith Bunker's chairs from "All in the Family." [09/27/1998]
