Legoland California, a theme park composed of 31 million of the plastic toys, opened this weekend in Carlsbad, CA. The park is modeled somewhat on successful parks in Denmark (Lego's home turf) and England.
The $130 million dollar park contains over 15,000 Lego models, and some towering Lego constructions, such as a 15.5 foot high Albert Einstein head. There's Miniland, where miniature versions of American cities and town scenes stand. All are securely glued together or reinforced with steel, to assure they will survive a big earthquake.
Legoland California is about 30 miles north of San Diego, off I-5 at Cannon Road. [03/21/1999]
