Big Muskie, mining leviathan, dismantled

Tourism News

The boom has literally dropped on Ohio's Big Muskie. The World's Largest Earth Mover continues to be dismantled, despite valiant preservation efforts. Muskie land owner American Electric Power issued a press release yesterday claiming that the remaining giant bucket "will become the centerpiece of a display that will tell visitors about the Big Muskie, surface mining and reclamation ... to memorialize the men and women who helped mine and reclaim the area." Big Brutus had no comment. [05/21/1999]
