The spotlight will be on glamour when over 40 original costumes worn by the stars of movie classics make their first New England appearance in "Dressed for the Part: Hollywood Costumes from the Silver Screen" opening at the American Textile History Museum in Lowell, MA, on November 16, 1999 through March 12, 2000.
The show focuses on 50 years of Hollywood film history from the silent film era to the 1960s. Styles range from the legendary blue gingham pinafore Judy Garland wore in The Wizard of Oz and Julie Andrews' unforgettable brown juniper in The Sound of Music to the magnificent examples of costume detail in Mary Pickford's coral silk brocade lounging gown from Dorothy Vernon of Hadden Hall and Linda Darnell's lavishly decorated off-white chiffon ball gown from Forever Amber.
The American Textile History Museum is home to the world's largest collection of textiles and decorative arts, tools, machinery and workplace artifacts relating to American textile history. [08/29/1999]
