Gus Grissom's Mercury capsule restored

Gus Grissom's controversial "Screw the Pooch" Mercury space capsule is being restored at the Kansas Cosmosphere, Hutchison, KS. The capsule was recently salvaged from the Atlantic ocean's bottom, where it had lain undisturbed for 38 years. The "Liberty 7" capsule sank after reentry, when the explosive hatch blew -- either accidentally or deliberately. The restoration work, which will take six months, will be on public display through a couple of windows at the Cosmosphere.
