Gettysburg Battle Tower demolished

The Gettysburg Battle Tower, a metal observation structure stuck in the middle of the historic battlefield, was demolished last month. The Tower has been open to the public since 1974, cursed at and reviled as a tacky eyesore by many. The 307-foot tower was seized by government officials in June, citing eminent domain laws. A demolition company knocked it down on July 3, 2000, after some cellular company antennae and a webcam were hastily evicted. Two short but fascinating video clips of the demolition can be viewed here.
