The cars submerged in asphalt at the Hamden Plaza shopping center, Hamden, CT, were slated for removal on July 17, until the owner granted a temporary reprieve.The 20 piece public art project, a low profile fixture of Hamden since 1978, has deteriorated into a public eyesore.
Peter Bonadies, a professor at Paier College of Art, has negotiated a delay while he works out a restoration plan that the current Hamden Plaza owner finds agreeable. The preliminary cost estimate for restoration is about $175,000, but Bonadies hopes to recruit students and other volunteers.
