Crowds are amassing every day at dusk around St. Joseph the Provider Church, Campbell, OH, to catch a glimpse of the glowing eyes and symbolic heart of a Virgin Mary statue on the church bell tower. The spiritually inspiring glow effect started some time in early August. More people gather each day brandishing telephoto cameras and binoculars, bringing offerings to the mother of Jesus and prayers for sick relatives and friends.
The statue was decorated with golf leaf paint by the church decades ago, but the glowing is new, and so far unexplained. The extra concentration of flashbulbs, spotlights and the bright-eyed faithful may make it tougher for the Catholic Church to substantiate any claims of divine glowingness.
