New Englanders are still reeling from the May collapse of New Hampshire's Old Man of the Mountain, while the state's Old Man Revitalization Task Force works feverishly to deliver a proposal in September. In the meantime, temporary or relatively small more permanent tributes to the geologic state symbol are cropping up.
At the Hampton, NH area's Rye Harbor, a local man has contructed a 1-ft. square replica next to a poster of the original, labeled "the Old Man Remembered." A 7-acre corn maze in Fairlee, VT has been fashioned into a 150-ft. long version of the craggy profile. There's another in Groveton, NH, carved by dairy farmers using GPS devices to lay out the face maze.
Finally, a "Mini Man" has been discovered along a busy section of Route 101 in Temple, NH. [08/30/2003]
