Hurricane Isabel savaged the 20-ft. tall Amish Man at Shirey's Auto Sales, Milford, Delaware, on September 18. The fiberglass statue was buffeted by strong winds until its ankles gave way. Amish Man fell onto a mailbox, which stopped his fall, but also caved in part of his chest.
We've reported in the past on this statue's migrations from Pennsylvania to Dover, Delaware, finally moving to Shirey's along Del. Highway 1 in early 2000. He is frequently misidentified as a Muffler Man.
Owner Jim Burke promises "The Big Man" will soon be repaired and back in the public eye, if not the hurricane's eye...
