- Aspen, Colorado - Middle Finger Salute
I believe the "Middle Finger Salute" that was painted on a roof along Highway 82 is gone. They've 4-laned the highway through there, and the property was sold and the home torn down. However, I heard that the 'Painted' section of the roof sold separately for "Top Dollar."

Big hand in the sky, "flipping the bird"... Painted on the side of a roof. Other explanation of why it was painted was in protest of the Aspen Airport demanding that the once shiny roof be painted because it was "blinding airplanes". This was the response.
Hunter Thompson does not own or live at this residence. He lives in Woody Creek. He does frequent the Woody Creek Tavern. Stop by and have lunch or dinner. Food is great!

Sorry to spoil part of a good story, but the "finger salute" on Hwy 82 near Aspen is not the home of Hunter Thompson. He lives in another part of the valley.

The one-fingered peace sign. Unfortunately, a couple had a bitter break-up that ended in divorce. To pay tribute to his long lost love, this Aspen man painted a full size birdie (in living color ) on his roof. It can be seen on the north side of Hwy 82 between Aspen and Basalt. This tribute to his EX has been proudly displayed for over twenty years (updated and edited w/fresh paint on a timely basis).
