This "national forest" was planted years ago to boost the morale of the military personnel stationed on the island. They put up Christmas lights and someone added a sign to commemorate the forest, and it remains to this day. There is also a pet cemetery next to the forest.

- Not connected by roads to the mainland. From Bayshore Hwy turn west onto Hillside Blvd. You'll quickly see the sign on the right, in front of the lonely tree.

The Bee Hive RV Park just outside of Anchor Point turned an old Airstream into their company mascot. She has two eyes made out of mirrors, pipe wings, antennae, and even a stinger sticking out of her backside. Every time I drive by, that big yellow bee catches my eye.

There's another Westerly Highway Point sign about 1.5 miles west off the old Sterling Hwy near the entrance to the Halibut State Campground.

How far west can you go? This sign tells you! Anchor Point, Alaska. There's a sign, a plaque and even a bench for your selfie. Quite corny, but worth stopping on the way to or from Homer.

Adak is Alaska's southernmost town, but it's halfway across the roadless Bering Sea. Cold, cloudy, and very windy. Most of it is tundra. The military left in 1997.
