- Albertville, Alabama - Muffler Man - Bunyan
There is a Paul Bunyan, with his hands in the classic muffler-man position, on the south side of US 431 in Albertville. He's not holding an axe, but looks more like a Bunyan than a Muffler Man, at least from the road.
Albertville is the big metropolis of Sand Mountain, which is famous for factory outlets, UFOs, bizarre murders, and stolen-car chop shops, a strange world in itself.
[Julie Bell, 01/08/2000]Muffler Man - Paul Bunyan:- Status:
- Gone
As far as we can determine, this promising logger/Paul Bunyan statue, sighted once in Stapleton in 1999, has since moved to parts unknown. Map street views along Hwy 59 show the background businesses gone and buildings vacant.
If you spot this guy in the region (it's a unique design, not a Muffler Man), let us know.
[RoadsideAmerica.com Team, 11/02/2013]Paul Bunyan Woodsman:- Directions:
- West side of US Hwy 31/Hwy 59, just north of 39 turnoff.
- Status:
- Gone
I was down at my in-laws and came across this woodsman. He was erected sometime between January 1 and August 1, 1999, since he was not there Christmas time. He's located on Alabama Highway 59/U.S. Route 31. To me, he looks kind of Canadian, which would make him totally out of place in southern Alabama. However, there is a huge logging industry in the area, so maybe he's not so out of place after all?
[Melanie Emmons, 08/28/1999]Bears a resemblance to Bemidji, MN's Paul Bunyan statue!
I'm the owner, Scott Griffeth. Paul Bunyan now stands at Griffeth Hot Rods in Bache.

St. George Paul has left Connecticut and is in Oklahoma.
[scott griffeth, 10/22/2019]"Big John" stood in St. George, Utah, until 2001. Since 2008 he'd been flat on his back in Connecticut. A crowdfunding campaign raised money to bring him back to the Beehive State, apparently with a pit stop for burgers in Oklahoma.
