- Ester, Alaska - Skinny Dick's Half-Way Inn
Skinny Dick is alive, but in poor health. My husband and I took a road trip to Alaska the last two weeks in May 2005 and made Skinny Dick's one of our destinations after seeing it on roadsideamerica.com.
We were lucky enough to arrive on the weekend of their summer kickoff party. Enjoyed cooking our own hamburgers and the homemade fixins.
Had fun imagining how so much tackiness and crude stuff could be assembled in one place, and had to wonder about the mind that conceived it! All the people there were nice and most acted almost normal. If they weren't laughing, they had a hell-of-a smile on their faces. The owners weren't aware that they were on your site and were very pleased.

Our family thinks we are nuts. "You're going to drive 50 miles to eat a hamburger in an orange because you saw it on Roadside America?" "Why yes of course, cause that's the way we roll" we tell them. Well, both the hamburgers and the prices were great! Next time we visit in Arkansas we plan to go back on a Friday night so we can try their catfish and prawn special.

- Amado, Arizona - Restaurant Shaped Like a Cow Skull
The restaurant is no longer a spaghetti restaurant -- it's actually a great restaurant that has (still spaghetti and pizza, but more so hamburgers, steak, shrimp, Mexican food, specials everyday, great cocktails). There's no real good restaurant around between Tuscon and border at all; this is it if you want to stop and eat well!
The Longhorn was one of the locations in the film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" by Martin Scorsese (1974) and if you stand in front of the restaurant, the street you look into was a location for "The Postmen" by Kevin Costner (1997)!

- Seligman, Arizona - Delgadillo's Snow Cap Drive-In
This would be a typical mom and pop hamburger stand if it weren'r for one Juan Delgadillo who is a real practical joker. The door to the store has several doorknobs on either side of it. You are greeted with a sign in the window that says, "Sorry, We're Open." The menu includes "Hamburgers without Ham," "Cheeseburgers with Cheese," and the ever popular "Dead Chicken." Snow Cap is across from the Route 66 Roadkill Cafe and a Chinese fast food place which also sells hamburgers (the sign says, "If you really want hamburgers, go to Snow Cap!"
