- Birmingham, Alabama - Stan the Muffler Man
I believe one of the muffler men sits atop a tire store overlooking interstate 65 in downtown Birmingham. He may be difficult to photograph, but I'll try to confirm his existence in a later message.

There are a couple of Muffler Man-sized statues out in front of the closed and abandoned Styx River Water World. There's also a big cow and lots of other animal statues. Unfortunately, one of the men and nearly all of the animals have been knocked over and vandalized since the park closed for good in 2001. There's also a graveyard of fiberglass figures nearby that includes parts of some other big men and many more animals. Go see 'em while you can. From the looks of things, it doesn't look like the remains of Styx River are going to be around for very long.
There's a rifle range just down the street, and we heard gunfire during our entire visit. Must have made for a kind of odd experience for visitors when the park was open.

The Birmingham M-Man is very tough to photograph. There's no place to stop, so you have to shoot while driving 60+mph. We recommend afternoon light, heading north with your cameraperson in the passenger seat.
