- Seligman, Arizona - Delgadillo's Snow Cap Drive-In
The Sno Cap Restaurant is located on Route 66 business loop in Seligman, AZ . Owned and operated by Juan Degadillo this mecca of kisch still remains as one of the great Route 66 attractions.
Juan, who is pushing 90 yrs old, and his family have been a staple in the town since -- as the sign reads -- 1916. The Sno Cap has the best hamburgers and Chocolate Malts in the country. The menu contains a variety of food groups like Cheeseburgers with Cheese, Dead Chicken Sandwiches, fries or rings and incredible hot dogs . But the food isn't the only attraction.
The Sno Cap offers outhouses complete with TVs , a garden decorated with deranged looking Santa Clauses, toilet planters, Burma Shave signs and plastic fruit that hangs from the trees.
Juan will gladly take a picture with you in his Old classic automobile parked in front of the restaurant .He will also offer you ketchup out of a plastic bottle and when you say "Sure I'll have Ketchup," he squirts the bottle at you as string comes flying out resembling ketchup. He will also offer you slightly used napkins, a straw for your coke (which is a balled up pile of real straw).
This place is a real gasser and a great place to eat . The malts are the best I have ever had and the Cheese burgers with Cheese are fantastic. Look for the Sno Cap located almost at the end of the business loop . You can't miss it and its sign that beckons DEAD CHICKEN SANDWICHES and old Christmas lights strewed about.
The family are wonderful people some of the nicest I have ever met on the road and again the food is the absolute best !

- Seligman, Arizona - Delgadillo's Snow Cap Drive-In
On Historic Route 66, is a hamburger and malt place called Snow Cap. The signs on the roof advertise "dead chicken" and "cheeseburgers with cheese". If the crazy proprietor gives you his card, which reads "My Card", it also boasts "slightly used napkins". Out back there is an outhouse with a television and a sink. Christmas garland hangs from the trees and so does a plastic Godzilla and other nick nacks. Excellent malts. It's on Route 66 just off of the I-40 in Arizona, between Kingman and Flagstaff.
[Danforth France, 03/31/1997] Restaurant built in 1949 is the oldest of this chain still operating in the U.S. Sign is 35 feet high, with iconic chubby burger boy at the base.

- Chico, California - Not a Big Boy - A Root Beer Man
There is a molded caricature figure of a stout man, with a disproportionately large head, about 7 feet tall, holding a foaming mug of [root?] beer in his right hand at waist level, and hoisting a plated hamburger skyward with his extended left arm. The one I can locate right away is in the lobby of the Chester Drawers Inn in Costa Mesa, CA and I have seen at least one other somewhere in the state. I know the statue is definitely not a Bob's Big Boy.
[Bill Wright, 07/22/2001]It is almost certainly an A&W "Root Beer Man," variations found in several spots around the country. Many of the originals were created by International Fiberglass.

- Chowchilla, California - Mammoth Orange
If you are traveling down Highway 99 in Central California, keep your eyes peeled for action at the site of the now-closed Mammoth Orange. The Fresno Bee reported that the city of Chowchilla is in negotiations to buy, restore, and re-open the famous orange restaurant "as soon as possible." It will become part of a new historical area east of downtown Chowchilla where it originated.
I can't wait for this to happen! I have been there several times just to savor the huge hamburgers, excellent fries, and out-of-the-world orange shakes. I hope they are also buying the recipes.
In the late '40's and 50's, California's roads were dotted with huge oranges, lemons, and limes. If all goes well, the Mammoth Orange will soon be beckoning the weary, hungry traveler once again.

Original owner Juan Delgadillo started the Snow Cap in 1953. Juan would ask if you'd like cheese on your cheeseburger. Then he'd squirt red yarn from a ketchup bottle at you. He died on June 1, 2004.
