Restored World's Fair Rockets
Queens, New York
This small patio area was originally named "United States Space Park" and had a number of exhibits, including a lunar lander, an X-15 rocket plane, and a Thor-Delta satellite-launching rocket. Most of the exhibits were carted away after the Fair, and those that remained were allowed to rot for 40 years.
In 2004, however, they were restored, and now visitors can admire pristine Titan II and Atlas rockets, topped with their Gemini and Mercury capsules, and consider how insane the astronauts must have been who rode these things into orbit.
