World's Largest Frying Pan
Georgetown, Delaware
A surprisingly large number of big, flat, metal disks with handles lay claim to the title of World's Largest Frying Pan, or variations on the theme.
Delaware's giant iron skillet was the largest in the world when it was forged in 1950: ten feet across, 18 feet long (with handle), and a capacity of 160 gallons of oil and 200 chickens. For the next 37 years the pan fried an estimated 100 tons of chicken at the annual Delmarva Chicken Festival. It was retired to its present status of worthy relic in 1987.
