Tunnel Of Love: Drive-Thru Weddings
Las Vegas, Nevada
There are a lot of wedding chapels in Sin City, but only a handful feature drive-thru windows, catering to lovebirds who don't want their wedding to impede their sightseeing.
The 24 hour drive-up at The Little White Wedding Chapel is particularly elaborate, sheltered under a lengthy canopy with a heavenly sky of painted cherubs and LED stars. The minister on duty told us that a drive-thru takes only 15 minutes, and for an additional fee we could rent a pink Cadillac -- license plate "2Elvis" -- and an Elvis impersonator.
The Little White Wedding Chapel, open since 1951, claims that it's the busiest in the world, with a celebrity marriage list that includes Britney Spears and Frank Sinatra, along with vague boasts such as "The Who" and "Blue Oyster Cult" (Probably only their roadies and groupies). Video cameras in each of its five chapels are linked online, so your surprised family and friends back home can watch your intimate vows, live, from their smartphones.
The Chapel stands just across the street from a place named, simply, "Strippers," with a sign declaring, "Wanted: dancers, no experience necessary, earn $$$ while you learn." So perhaps at least some of the drive-thru weddings in the Tunnel of Love are impulse purchases.
