Yucca Mountain -- the place where America's nuclear waste would be stored for... what was it? A million years? A billion? We read all about it at some point, but can't remember the details. It's time for some Yucca Mountain re-education!
This is a small office attached to a large warehouse where you can pick up lots of free propaganda -- maps, booklets, DVDs -- produced by the U.S. Department of Energy. Its intent is to sway you on the safety, practicality, and inevitability of the proposed uber-nuclear waste dump underneath nearby Yucca Mountain. And, to be truthful, "free" is not quite right; your tax dollars pay for it.
"Shipments [of nuclear waste] will occur whether or not Yucca Mountain is approved," one of the booklets declares, which makes one wonder why Uncle Sam is going to all of this trouble.
We still don't know if it's a million years or a billion. But at least we left with "free" souvenirs. The guy in the warehouse is friendly, and seems lonely, so stop by and make his day.
