Rattlesnake Crafts

Field review by the editors.

Elfrida, Arizona

Rattlesnake Crafts is run by John and Sandy Weber, who moved to this part of the desert from colder regions decades ago. The "crafts" part of the attraction is in a trailer, where John and Sandy sell hat bands, watch fobs, etc., made out of the skins of rattlesnakes that they catch.

Outside of the trailer is an outdoor "museum" of unusual desert debris that they've found on their rattlesnake hunts -- lanterns, helmets, old jars, odd rocks -- set out on boards to very, very slowly decay in the dry air.

According to John, the best time to hunt rattlesnakes is at night -- so if you visit during the daytime you should be okay.
