SAC Museum - Wienermobile on the Airfield

The Strategic Air Command Museum became the Strategic Air and Space Museum after it moved to a new facility 25 miles west of Omaha. Still, we fondly remember the old place, with its indoor displays charting the role of the air force in (fortunately) never-realized World War III scenarios.
At the new location, you'll find all the aircraft indoors, but they used to sit out on a special patch of tarmac at Offut Air Force Base in Bellevue.
One of our road trip thrills back in 1992 was driving the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile out among the displays, posing it with cruise missiles, fighter jets, and an SR-71 Blackbird spy plane. Vigilance in the skies, so free Americans can choose their own brand of processed meat....
