Forest Fire Mass Grave Monument

Field review by the editors.

Moose Lake, Minnesota

453 people died on October 12, 1918, many of them near here. While attempting to flee a vast forest fire, their cars piled up on "Dead Man's Curve" in the smoke and flames west of town. A 27-foot-tall obelisk marks the spot where roughly 200 victims have been buried in a big pit.
