This religious folk art environment was built by the congregation of the Sweet Home Baptist Church decades ago. Visitors can stop in and take a stroll among a series of scenes taken from stories and events in the Bible.
There are numerous life-size concrete and plaster figures. The characters are hand-made -- not store mannequins -- which explains the charming lopsidedness of faces and puffy eyes. They are dressed in cloth robes or tunics. Some scenes are sheltered under in open-sided structures, but the weather takes its toll. The Sweet Home folks have created some striking Old Testament scenes -- Abraham about to sacrifice his son, Samson and Delilah -- as well as New Testament Life O' Christ stuff, starting with a Nativity diorama.
The scene of Jesus ascending into heaven features a fist-pumping Christ statue suspended on a flag pole, as other statues on the ground gasp in amazement.
All in all, a nice display.
