Where NASA Launches Its Other Rockets

Field review by the editors.

Wattsville, Virginia

Tired of launch day crowds at Cape Kennedy? Then come here, to the blast-off site for NASA's suborbital and small orbital rockets! With six launch pads and three launch control blockhouses, the Wallops Flight Facility launches rockets every year.

The best site for viewing them is on the observation deck atop the Visitors Center, right on Hwy 175. TV monitors provide close-up views of the launch pads, and there's a small museum, a video theater, and rockets on display outside.

For info on the next scheduled launch call 757-824-2050.
