Dead Linemen Statue
Salem, Arkansas
A slightly larger than life-sized bronze statue of a lineman climbing a pole, looking upward toward heaven, stands in the front lawn of North Arkansas Electric Cooperative headquarters. It's dedicated to eight linemen who have lost their lives on the job while working for NAEC, three of them in a substation explosion in 2004.
The statue was sculpted by Ron Moore, who also made the statue of Robert E. Lee on his horse, Traveler, at Antietam, MD.
Plaques around the pole honor each of the fallen linemen, and one offers The Lineman's Prayer, which concludes: "Thank you, O God, for every blessing, and may You give us strength to reach for the stars."
