European Gourmet McDonald's (Gone)
Orlando, Florida
This McDonald's is designed as a French provincial 2-story, lakeside cafe. You'll find all the usual McD grab-n-go items on the menu. For several years the upscale offering included french pastries, espresso, lattes, and wine. A corporate chef was hired to execute "Gourmet Taste Additions" to the standard fare: paninis, made-to-order pizzas, blackened grouper, portobello eggplant, and dessert -- italian amaretto spumoni (recent reports indicate this stuff is all gone).
It's only a half-mile from the World's Largest Entertainment McD's, but this one is designed to attract a slightly different audience. It doesn't look anything like a European cafe on the outside, but more of a cross between a cathedral and a self-storage facility.
Owners Gary and Jeanie Oerther built over twenty McDonald's restaurants in the area, each with a different themed interior motif (a current list is at www.mcfun.com/restaurants).
