The Reno Carpeteria franchise opened in 1980, two decades after the discount flooring retailer's first store in California rolled out the welcome mat. The two-faced fiberglass genie on Reno's sign is a younger version of the signature Carpeteria Genie signs found at the corporation-owned stores. The genie is smaller, the grin less impish. Other Carpeterias went out of business, but this is one that has survived.
