Lincoln's Funeral Train
Dover, Ohio
America has a love affair with the Lincoln Funeral Train. Maybe it's just the idea that our fallen leader was transported from whistle stop to whistle stop, past myriad mourners, before reaching his final rest in Illinois. We've seen the Funeral Train recreated everywhere, in miniature at funeral museums (natch), at train museums (natch) and even a rumbling climb-on-board version at Gettysburg.
One in particular gets intense scrutiny and appreciation from busloads of tourists: the intricate, hand-carved funeral train by the late Ernest "Mooney" Warther at Warther Carvings Museum (and Button Collection). You can see the coffin through the train car windows.
