The Bunkers.

Television Hall of Fame

Field review by the editors.

North Hollywood, California

Out of the way, in the Valley, over the mountains from Hollywood, this outdoor plaza is even hidden from the street. That's a shame, because it honors TV's greatest stars, with a 27-foot-tall gold-plated Emmy statue/fountain as its centerpiece. It sprawls out in front of the headquarters of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Highlights of the plaza include life-size bronze statues of Johnny Carson, Jack Benny, and Lucille Ball (although Lucy fans complain that it's a poor likeness), as well as busts, bronze plaques, and smaller statues of celebrities such as Walt Disney, Jackie Gleason, Jim Henson and The Muppets, Rod Serling, Mary Tyler Moore, and Walter Cronkite. New stars are added to the Hall of Fame every year, and outdoor tributes follow, although the full-size statues are reserved for TV's most iconic and profitable celebrities.

The plaza underwent an extensive renovation from 2015 to 2017, and when it reopened the Academy announced that Bill Cosby's bust would not return. The empty pedestal that had supported Cosby's head became the Hall of Fame's most photographed attraction, briefly, until its plaque was removed.
