Goodyear Blimp Base

You might get a little jaded about the wondrous spectacle of lighter-than-air flight if you saw a blimp every morning. And every evening. And at various other times every day. That's the situation around Gardena and Carson, where Goodyear operates a blimp base.

The airfield is currently home to one blimp, the 246 ft. long Spirit of America. The helium-filled craft putters across the skies of Los Angeles, part of the rubber company's fleet. The blimps act as highly visible brand ambassadors, but also as for-rent aerial vantage points for sports and entertainment events.

The airfield is 27 acres of mostly... field, which makes sense if the wind isn't cooperating during a landing.

Visitors can request a tour via the goodyearblimp.com web site. Goodyear operates two others bases in Florida and Ohio.
