Sailors' Union of the Pacific Monument
Colma, California
On any cemetery safari in Colma "City of the Dead," there are several worthy, unique sights in Olivet Memorial Park. Just past "Clown Alley," where circus "showfolk" are buried, is a large black stone monument. It commemorates deceased members of a labor union founded in San Francisco in 1885 -- the Sailors' Union of the Pacific.
The sculptured figure, rising out of the stone, looks like a mysterious, cloaked superhero, gripping a ship's wheel.
