Linville Caverns

Field review by the editors.

Marion, North Carolina

North Carolina's only commercial cave has been open for business since 1937. It can be a chilly, wet tour when there's water in the ground, but the moisture is necessary to replenish the caverns' Bottomless Pool with its three varieties of trout. "Custom-designed lighting allows you to appreciate the caverns' splendor." This includes formations such as Wedding Scene and Tobacco Leaves, a popular photo-op.

The caverns are also known for their population of bats. Tours last 35 to 40 minnutes.
